The Fiji Nursing Council (FNC) launched their first ever online portal at the Fiji National University (FNU) School of Nursing auditorium in Tamavua last week.
FNC director Kavekini Neidiri said he hoped the new system would lessen the turnaround time for nursing applications.
“It is a website related to FNC and its functions,” he said. “It allows forms to be submitted online and evidence of payments attached, online approval of application submissions, e-copy licence cards and many more.”
Health Ministry and FNC chief medical advisor Dr Jemesa Tudravu said the transition to digital record-keeping had been in progress for a long time.
“Data and information are becoming more and more valuable and critical for proper and effective functioning and in some instances survival of organisations,” he said
. “The FNC is the legislated authority in Fiji that caters for the registration and professional development of nurses in Fiji has recognised the need for enhancing the storage of information under the council’s keep.”
Dr Tudravu said before starting a digitalised record-keeping, the council continued to procure cabinets to store the increasing amount of records and files in the office.
“With time, the quality of these paper-based records also deteriorates significantly.”
He commended the council for taking this bold step and choosing to digitalise their records.
