THE cost of houses in Fiji is outrageous, says Shadow Economy Minister Aseri Radrodro.

In his response to the 2018/2019 Budget in Parliament on Monday, Mr Radrodro claimed the Government’s move to establish a Housing Ministry to look after the housing policies they had introduced would not address the housing crisis faced by the country.

“This policy being introduced is a simple exercise of vote buying,” Mr Radrodro said.

“People have tried to escape to places where they can afford homes. But, where 10 years ago a decent property cost less than $100,000, in Nausori, today the same property will cost around $300,000.

“All because the supply of affordable housing is limited.”

Mr Radrodro said a SODELPA government would offer a better alternative should they form the next government.
