FOUR airline passengers from Hong Kong who transited through Nadi International Airport were denied entry into Samoa yesterday for medical reasons and sent back to Fiji.
They had arrived from Hong Kong yesterday on a Fiji Airways morning flight and flew to Apia on a Fiji Airways flight at 12:15pm.
The four were being held at the Nadi airport overnight.
Samoa has strict rules in place over the coronavirus infection where incoming passengers are required to have undergone medical clearance at least three days before travelling to Samoa to confirm that they are free of any infectious diseases.
After Samoa denied the four entry, they came back to Nadi at 6pm last night.
Head of Health Protection Dr Alisha Sahu Khan told The Fiji Times that “a statement will be released”.
When asked if the passengers had shown signs of coronavirus, she gave the same response.
Last night, a passenger assistant with Air Terminal Services (Fiji) Ltd, Lui Gabe, posted on his Facebook page that he was requested to undergo a medical examination.
“This afternoon (yesterday) I got a call from work and was asked about meeting the Hong Kong flight this morning.
“I got the call because I had to undergo a full medical examination according to my supervisor since I was one of the four who met the flight.”
