Contractor demand delays roadwork

A CONTRACTOR for the Fiji Roads Authority had requested for more money before they carried out upgrade works in Nasikawa district in Navosa.

This was revealed at a talanoa session with the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama, in Keiyasi last week.

According to the FRA official, the roadworks were delayed because of the new demand from the contractor.

“We were supposed to start work last year but there was a delay in the upgrade because our contractor had asked for more money,” he said.

“They changed some of the conditions in the contract because they wanted an increase in the money we were giving them.

“That was the reason for the three-month delay.

“But we managed to come to an agreement last month and works will begin in April.”

FRA confirmed to the Prime Minister that it was Naboutini Contractors who were awarded the contract.

The issue was brought up by Nasikawa district spokesman who revealed that upgrade works were not being carried out in his district.

He said this was not the first time that he had spoken to the Prime Minister about the problem.

He said his first attempt was made at a talanoa session with Mr Bainimarama during his last visit to Bukuya in Ba.
