YOUNG patients admitted at the Lautoka Hospital Children’s Ward were given a treat yesterday when they were visited by the 2019 Fiji Airways Farmers Carnival contestants.
The 10 beauty pageant queens had a chance to interact with the patients as part of their week-long promotion of the carnival.
Farmers carnival organising committee president Vyas Deo Sharma said the visit was to allow the contestants to meet every member of their community.
“We believe that a carnival is not only for entertainment and overall enjoyment, it is also an opportunity to help others in need,” he said.
“So by visiting sick children in hospitals, it is a chance for them to bring smiles to our children admitted in hospital. It is an important part of the week for the girls and we want to ensure they are able to visit all of the different aspects of our community.”
He added the contestants would also be paying a visit to local sugarcane farming communities in Lautoka.
The carnival’s theme this year is “Farmers and Climate Change”.
