Fiji Police Constable Ronil Pratap counts himself lucky after receiving the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday.

The father of two was among members of the Fiji Police Force who were vaccinated at the Police Academy in Nasova, Suva yesterday.

He said it was important f to get vaccinated to avoid any risk of contracting the virus.

“I’m happy and blessed to receive the vaccination because it will ensure that my family and my community will be secure from the COVID-19 virus,” he said.

Sergeant Epeli Caginivalu, a member of the Southern Division highway patrol, said Fijians were lucky to be able to receive the vaccination so soon and free of charge.

“It’s important that everyone receives this vaccination, especially seeing on the news that our Pacific neighbours, Papua New Guinea, has recorded an increase of 7000 cases currently so we are blessed that we don’t have that much cases and the vaccinations are provided by the Government,” he said.

The vaccination drive for members of the Fiji Police Force will continue throughout the week, excluding those based in the Northern Division and maritime zones.

They will receive their vaccinations at a later date.
