Conservation International Fiji supports government’s policies

CONSERVATION International (CI) Fiji supports government policies while doing conservation work on the ground.

Country Director Conservation International (CI) Fiji, Susana Tuisese said this yesterday in an interview with the Fiji Times Online team.

“And when I talk about government policies, I’m referring to the 5 year and 20 year national development plan, the green growth framework; all these frameworks and policies of government are there to support not only the people of Lau but the whole development aspirations of the government of the day,” Mrs Tuisese said.

“We certainly think in the small way in what we’re doing, we’re contributing to towards the bigger policy,” she said.

Conservation International Fiji is currently facilitating a four-day Lau Seascape Project workshop which began yesterday and is being attended by the chiefs and representatives of the islands in Lau.

Mrs Tuisese said they are also very cautious of government’s obligations and commitments at the international level.

“We strongly believe that this work in Lau, although its nested within a province of Fiji, we believe it will contribute massively to Fiji’s international promises and obligations.

“Under the Convention of Biological Diversity, Fiji is saying we will have to protect and save our marine spaces.”
