AN important element in fashion is ensuring that there should be a connection for the collections.

Highlighting this, international award-winning fashion teacher, designer and Fiji Fashion Week (FJFW) mentor Nicholas Huxley said these include architecture, dominance, lines, direction, colour, texture, shape, repetition, proportions and shape.

Mr Huxley conducted a Fashion and Design Workshop in Suva on Friday night.

The workshop was about elements and principles of designing.

“I have put all these into fashion context for the 12 young emerging fashion designers participating in the workshop,” he said.

Mr Huxley said it was important for all these elements to be broken down into fabric. He added it was important to have connections for the collections because these made the collections look amazing and appealing on the runway.

“Designers need to make impressions. They need to show something new, creative, innovative and that has individuality,” he said.

The workshop was presented by the Fashion Council of Fiji in partnership with FJFW.
