POLICE Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho has given investigators into the alleged police brutality case in Pacific Harbour until Friday to finalise their findings.

This, according to police spokesperson Ana Naisoro.

“The Commissioner has told the investigators to ensure all aspects of the investigation is covered thoroughly and not to rush it so whoever is responsible is charged,” she said

“The given deadline is this Friday.”

Manasa Rayasidamu, 27, claimed he was arrested by police on Monday November 4 and taken to the Pacific Harbour Police Post where police officers allegedly stoned his ankles, rendering him immobile, before pouring hot water on his back.

In a statement released November 14, Brig Gen Qiliho said he would personally oversee investigations into the alleged incident.

He said police officers were well versed with their roles in upholding and respecting the rights of those brought into custody.

The Police Commissioner said any officer whose actions contravened those rights, would be dealt with severely through internal disciplinary processes and brought before the court of law to answer to their crime.
