The Social Democratic Liberal Party has lodged a complaint against former party MP and Opposition Whip Ro Filipe Tuisawau for blaming SODELPA for the imprisonment of its former parliamentarian Niko Nawaikula.

This has been confirmed by party general secretary Lenaitasi Duru during a special annual general meeting at Dudley High School in Toorak, Suva yesterday.

“We never at any point told Mr Nawaikula to go defraud government,” he said.

“Section 144 of the Electoral Act, specifies if you are going to make a statement, publish a statement, it has to be factual.

“So we have lodged a complaint to the Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem to ask him to provide evidence because the evidence from the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) is contradictory to his statement.

“Mr Saneem has written back that he has received the complaint and Ro Filipe was given time to respond.”

During a media conference in Suva, Mr Saneem confirmed receiving the complaint from SODELPA and that they will release a media statement on the issue.
