Post Fiji Pte Ltd celebrated World Post Day this week with the unveiling of the commemorative $20 stamp, and a number of other admirable initiatives.
World Post Day is celebrated worldwide and for the 192 countries that fall under the Universal Postal Union (UPU) the theme this year was ‘Post for Planet’.
As such, Post Fiji marked their support for sustainability and planet preservation by planting mangrove seedlings at the Nasese foreshore, the credit for which goes to their marketing team who suggested the company do their part in supporting Fiji Government’s 30 million tree planting exercise.
The team of Post Fiji executives and their chief executive officer Dr Anirudha Bansod were accompanied by the Minister for Infrastructure, Meteorological Services, Lands and Mineral Resources Jone Usumate.
The minister said this was an excellent initiative as the more mangroves planted the better, and that the next step for postal services would be reducing the use of paper products, which Post Fiji is looking into.
“We are people of service and we are proud our front liners worked hard and of their dedication to provide services to the community through our 58 Post shops all over the country.”
Dr Bansod also made the journey to Nadi to celebrate and thank some long-supporting customers.
The stamp artwork was provided by the UPU
. Designed by Sonja Denovski, it presents a visual message on the Posts contribution to an environmentally sustainable future. The stamp can be purchased from the Post Office and Philatelic Bureau until October 8, 2024.
