IN the spirit of sharing and caring, some members of a community in Lautoka came together to fish last week.

About 10 people gathered at Lomolomo Beach to catch nethili fish. Lomolomo resident Mohammed Shafiq said there was nothing much to do during the COVID-19 lockdown, so they headed to the beach to fish.

“We made sure there were not more than 20 people and this is why just a few of us got together to do some fishing for our families,” he said.

“This is a difficult time we are all going through.

“Some of our family members could not go to work and some have been unemployed, so we thought this would be a good way of sharing whatever little we managed to catch.

“People are so close to each other in communities here in Lautoka and we love supporting each other during difficult times.”

These residents spent less than two hours on the beach and used a 10m fishing net to fish. Mr Shafiq said they were blessed with abundance of nethili.

He said this would help feed the community at a time when everyone was struggling to make ends meet.
