Committee recommends proper resources for OAG

THE parliamentary standing committee on Public Accounts has recommended that the Office of the Auditor General be properly resourced to carry out specific environmental audits.

In its review of the Office of the Auditor General’s 2015 annual report, the committee was informed that the office had not carried out a lot of work in the area of environmental audits such as climate change audits or audits on extractive industries.

According to the report, the Environment Management Act requires the Auditor General to conduct a sustainable development assurance audit on natural resources managed by ministers, departments, authorities or local authorities.
