Committee member lashes out

A GENERAL manager of an insurance company welcomes parliamentarians at the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Economic Affairs yesterday for a cup of tea at his office if they wish to discuss their insurance policies.

This comes after Dr Brij Lal lashed out on Life Insurance Corporation of India general manager Sanjay Dayal on his experiences with the company in the past.

“Sorry, I have one challenge with your company. This maybe a personal question but… I took a policy in September and your company says I should pay the premium September to September and I said I wanted to pay from January to December. That is why we were having difficulties throughout the years and that has led me and my family to move to another insurance company,” Dr Lal said.

Mr Dayal responded that he would need to look at his policy again since he just took up the job in Fiji for the past four months.

Dr Lal interjected that he would be wasting his time doing all those as he had gone to LICI office 20 times and there was no one to listen to him.

Mr Dayal apologised for Dr Lal’s experiences in the past and was trying to get the message the across that he had just been in the country for four months.

However, it was not taken into account by Dr Lal, who blamed LICI staff members for his bad experience with the company few years ago.

Committee chairperson Lorna Eden interjected saying that Dr Lal should have a cup of tea with Mr Dayal to discuss the matter, but it was rejected by Dr Lal saying that it would be a waste of his time.

Mr Dayal assured the committee that he always made time for his customers and was an approachable person since he was in office in Fiji for the past four months.
