ALL Electoral Commissioners received $11,000 in 2018 in sitting allowance at a rate of $500 per meeting, the 2018 Electoral Commission annual report that was tabled in Parliament on Monday said.

The report lists Suresh Chandra, Simione Naiduki, Ratu Paula Halaiwalu, Grahame Bruce Southwick, Jawahar Lal, Margot Marie Jenkins and Kavita Raniga as commissioners who sat for 22 meetings in 2018.

The commissioners were also entitled to a $50 per day meal allowance which the report said “they do not collect this allowance and instead opt for the FEO to arrange and pay for their meals.”

The Electoral Commission met 22 times in 2018, out of which 12 were on a monthly basis.

“This was the monthly EC meeting which was to discuss the general matters and correspondence of the Commission,” the report said.

The report noted the commissioners met 10 times between October and November 2018.

“This meeting was to discuss all matters relating to the 2018 General Election, including complaints and correspondence relating to the 2018 General Election.”

The report said all commissioners worked on a part-time basis on “work undertaken on behalf of Electoral Commission as and when required.”
