FISHERIES Minister Semi Koroilavesau says coastal fishing areas around the country have been heavily saturated and harvested.

Mr Koroilavesau said there was a need to put a regulatory framework in place.

He said the major challenge for the ministry was to let the people understand about bans and over-harvesting.

“With the new fisheries licence we are going to initiate, we will make sure that in every fishing area, the ministry will understand the stock that is within and the different species,” Mr Koroilavesau said.

“Then we will be able to make out what to stop in a certain area.

“There are certain areas that have been over-fished for certain species, and then we have to stop catching these species.”
