A National Federation Party and The People’s Alliance government will review the Media Industry Development Act within six months of taking office, said NFP leader Professor Biman Prasad at a talanoa session in Sigatoka on Wednesday.

He said the MIDA Decree (Act) was a “draconian law”.

“We will free the media in this country from the shackles of the draconian media laws that exist,” he said.

“In six months we will review all the draconian laws, we will identify all of them and the Media Decree is one of them.”

Professor Prasad said journalism and the media were very important in a democracy.

“In a democracy, the media are called the Fourth Estate, they are the most important people. “I know the work they do is not easy.”
