FIJI Airways Fijiana 7s interim coach Ro Alifereti Doviverata is ready to take on the next World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series.
Despite holding the fort while the Fiji Rugby Union mulls over who to officially take over from Nadi’s Iliesa Tanivula, Doviverata is no stranger to the code.
He was a former captain in Fiji’s 7s and 15s, a qualified coach, and a chief.
He has a resume fit to mould young players and his chiefly status, and deep husky voice commands respect in the team.
The new series starts at the end of the month in Colorado, US. Doviverata has named a 16-member squad from the 23 he had been training for weeks. He is expected to trim the squad to the travelling 12 this week.
“I have a fair idea of the 12 players,” Doviverata said.
“The reason I didn’t select the players from last season was because many of them had injuries.”
The survivors from Tanivula’s squad are Litia Naiqato, Ana Maria Naimasi and Mereula Toroti.
Players such as former captain Ana Maria Roqica, Lavenia Tinai, Timaima Ravisa and Rusila Nagasau didn’t make the final selection for the Fijiana extended squad.
The Fijiana 7s team is in pool C in the Colorado 7s tournament against Canada, France and Ireland.
Its first match will be against Canada and then France and Ireland on October 21.
