The Fiji Airways Fijian 7s players have not had much down-time following the Rugby World Cup 7s title victory heading into the 2023 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series which starts this weekend in Hong Kong.
Fijian 7s coach Ben Gollings said they had gone through an interesting phase following the RWC 7s victory which was great.
“It has not given us a huge amount of down-time and building towards the season with Hong Kong now played in November this year,” Gollings said.
“We sat with only a few weeks to see where we could start off and then had to develop towards the tournament. It has been disruptive, but we managed to get together and had a trip to Japan which was good.
“It was an opportunity for players to play since the RWC 7s. Following that we worked together and built on all what we were doing throughout the season and now take that to Hong Kong.”
Gollings is after Fiji’s sixth consecutive win at So Kon Po.
“It is a huge tournament in any series, so we are looking forward to it.”
Fiji will face Japan at 8.52pm this Friday. On Saturday Fiji will play Spain at 4.15pm and the United States at 8pm.
