The Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas is in typhoon preparedness mode as Tropical Disturbance 26W is expected to intensify into a Category 3 early next week.

The tropical disturbance is moving westward and is expected to slowly strengthen into a Category 3 typhoon as it approaches the Northern Marianas and Guam.

The National Weather Service in Guam said there is still uncertainty as to the exact track and strength of the system but it appears, based on the current timing, that impacts should begin to be felt by Monday, with the system moving through the Marianas Monday night or Tuesday.
