Update: 12:56PM ELEVEN organisations including two major banks and two of Suva’s top hotels will switch off their lights tonight.

The lights out is part of the annual Earth Hour initiative, which WWF worldwide organises to remind people to use less energy.

In Suva, the day began this morning with the clean-up of the Lami beach and tree planting at the mouth of the river.

WWF Pacific Conversation director Francis Areki said today’s event that saw the participation of more than 100 people was part of the organisation’s constant quest to change the culture around waste disposal.

Tonight, the Grand Pacific Hotel leads the campaign when it switches off all its lights at 8.30pm for the first time since it reopened several years ago.
