There should be no excuses about children not being able to attend school because of Government’s free education, free textbook and subsidised transportation to school programs.

This was the word from Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama on the resumption of classes beginning this week.

He made the comment while opening three new teachers’ quarters worth $660,000 at Ballantine Memorial School in Delainavesi yesterday.

“This enrolment day is like any other day as you prepare to return to your classrooms and resume face to face learning, after over three months of staying home,” he said.

The PM said all COVID-19 patients in Fiji had recovered completely, Government had successfully contained the virus and this had resulted in schools being opened.

He said during his term as PM nothing had made him more proud than the progress made in the education sector.

Mr Bainimarama said closing down schools because of the COVID-19 pandemic had not been an easy decision for him to make.

“I want to thank every Fijian for their patience during the months of staying home.”

He reminded students to maintain healthy hygiene practices at school and home at all times.
