FIJI Sugar Corporation CEO Graham Clark says a $9.3million upgrade to the Rarawai mill, Ba, should give it a new lease of life.

Speaking at the opening of crush for the 2019 season yesterday, he said Rarawai had been through a lot in its 133-year history.

“Last year, Rarawai mill faced significant challenges with its main boiler,” Mr Clark said.

“The boiler, built in 1997, went through an extensive refurbishment during the off-season to the tune of $9.3million.

“This is the first major upgrade work done to the 22-year-old Rarawai boiler since it was built in 1997.”

He said the three main areas of upgrade included the bagasse feeders, air heater, and ash grate.
