POLICE have widened and intensified investigations into the mysterious disappearance of a three-year-old girl from Kalekana, Lami.

Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said the Criminal Investigations Department was now assisting in the search for clues on the circumstances surrounding the bizarre disappearance of the toddler last Saturday.

Talei Raikadroka, 3, was last seen going to bed with her grandmother last Friday night and what happened to her in the hours leading to the following morning remains a mystery.

Last night, Talei’s grandmother Arieta Ronaiqato said they were still searching for her granddaughter in a nearby forest adjacent to the settlement.

She confirmed that the news of Talei’s disappearance is yet to be relayed to the child’s father, Waisea Raikadroka.

She said Mr Raikadroka is out at sea on a fishing vessel and will return next year.

Ms Ronaiqato said hopes were high that the child would be found safe.

“I’m just praying to God for his assistance and to comfort my granddaughter as we continue to look for her.”
