AUSTRALIAN Minister for Foreign Affairs and Women Marise Payne yesterday commended churches in Fiji for being at the forefront of raising awareness on violence against women and children.

She highlighted this while visiting the House of Sarah — a faith-based organisation of the Anglican Church providing support to women and children who have been victims of violence in Fiji.

“Violence against women and children, the church plays a great role in this. I think this is really an interesting idea. The churches don’t have this conversation in Australia,” Ms Payne said.

She said the work carried out by the association was powerful.
