Responding to the needs of their faithful, Jehovah’s Witness church volunteers have repaired and rebuilt houses damaged by Severe Tropical Cyclone Yasa on Vanua Levu.
Three groups of volunteers based at Naruwai, Bua, Dreketi and Seva, Macuata, have repaired partially damaged houses and are building new houses for the families at no cost.
Dreketi group leader Pauliasi Seru said the assistance was part of their disaster relief program where church members were assisted during times of need.
“We arrived in January and we have repaired partially-affected houses and now we are constructing new ones for the families,” he said.
“In Dreketi, we have built two houses already and have one more to go before we move to other areas to help our church members.
“In the Bible, Jesus said they will know you by your fruits, and here we are showing the love that Jesus also commanded us to share with others.”
Unaisi Tuidama of Naivimoli settlement, who lost her house during STC Yasa, has been gifted a newly-constructed Category 5 cyclone-resistant home.
“I am so grateful and thank the volunteers for their great help because I couldn’t afford this building,” the 70-year-old said.
“God is good and my prayers have been answered.” Edward and Ana Hughes said the construction of their new house was a blessing.
“We lost everything including our business, but it’s more important that our house is being built and for free too so we thank God and the JW Church for their help,” Mr Hughes said.
