MEMBERS of the Naleba Cross Church in Labasa received a befitting gift yesterday when the Saint John Vianny gave them a new cross, a symbol of perseverance and sacrifice.
Church catechist Ignatius Want described the cross as a timely gift, saying this was the best Easter for the church members.
Mr Want said their former cross had broken recently and that they were using a simple cross at the church altar.
“Receiving the cross at Lent meant a lot for us because it is a time of sacrifice and the cross was the biggest sacrifice that Christ did for humankind,” he said.
“It is a reminder to us that even though we have fallen short of the glory of God,we still have hope in the cross of Christ that bridges the gap between men and God.
“We are thankful to the women’s group for thinking of the church and gifting us with the cross.”
Mr Want said this was not the first time that they had been assisted by the group.
He added they had been privileged to have the women’s group who never failed to assist the church.
Group president Selina Leewah said the group was honoured to be involved in the presentation of the cross. Ms Leewah said they hoped church members at Naleba would always remember Christ and his sufferings when they looked at the cross.
“At the same time we would like to wish everyone a happy Easter and let’s not forget the real meaning of the occasion which is sacrifice for the good of all,” she said.
