Christmas baby

Listen to this article:

“IT is the best day of my life.”

These were the words uttered by Evia Matasawalevu who gave birth to a baby boy at 12.48am this morning at the CWM Maternity Ward today.

Named Jimy Voisunadokona, the baby became the first child to be born in Fiji on this year’s Christmas day.

Mrs Matasawalevu said she had never even dreamt about anything like this would happen in her life.

“It like unbelievable. I was due to give birth on the 28th. The thought of birth on a new year did cross my mind but I never thought he would enter this world on Christmas day. It is just so special to us,” she said.

Twenty-year-old from Kadavu said her newborn was the eldest grandchild from his maternal links and a big celebration waits upon being discharged.

“The family has just gone crazy. I was admitted yesterday after some pain but no one thought I would give birth overnight. It has not only come as a surprise to me but as a blessing in disguise as well,” she said.

She now resides in Raiwaqa with her family.
