THE Rotuman community in New Zealand showed their support towards the victims of the massacre in Christchurch by planting flowers at the Masjid e Umar (Mount Roskill Mosque) yesterday.

The Auckland Rotuman Fellowship Group Incorporated (ARFGI) requested its members to meet at the mosque yesterday afternoon to continue with the gardening which began two days ago.

ARFGI general secretary Rachel Mario said they had asked their brothers and sisters if they could plant some flowers that had been kindly put in front of the mosque.

“They thought it was a great idea as this will be a permanent reminder of the love and support received from ordinary Kiwis,” Ms Mario said.

She said they wanted to share their love and support for each other and show their solidarity during this time of grief for the whole of New Zealand.

“Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with our Muslim and the Canterbury communities at this time of immense sadness and emotion.”
