President-elect Ratu Wiliame Katonivere’s older sister Adi Samanunu Katonivere said her “baby brother’s” appointment was a divine blessing from God.

Speaking to The Fiji Times at Naduri Village on Vanua Levu, she said “Tuwili” has made the family proud.

She said their late parents, Ratu Soso Katonivere and Samanunu Boteiviwa, “must be smiling down from heaven”.

“Out of the seven of us — he is the most loving one and he doesn’t differentiate people,” she said.

Adi Samanunu said their father decided to enrol Ratu Wiliame at Bua College for his secondary education so he could experience rural life as they were brought up in Naisonini, Muanikau, Suva.

Ratu Wiliame is the youngest of seven siblings and was born at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital on April 20, 1964.

He attended Draiba Fijian School and completed his secondary education at Bua College.

His mother hailed from Waisa, Kubulau, Bua. Ratu Wiliame was installed Tui Macuata in 2013 following the passing of his older brother Ratu Aisea Katonivere, who drowned during a fishing trip.

He was brought up with neighbours which included the Toganivalu, Raiwalui and George families.

He is married to Filomena and they have two children and three grandchildren.
