A 42-YEAR-OLD Chinese national accused of allegedly killing an Asian woman in Suva this year appeared at the High Court in Suva today.
It is alleged Wang Qi Yong caused the death of the 33-year-old woman on May 13, 2019, at the victim’s home in Namadi Heights.
The body of the victim was later found in her room by her flatmate.
Defence lawyer Krishneel Chang told the court that there were confessions made by the accused in his caution interview that was in line with self-defence.
He told the court that the accused was a fisherman onboard a fishing vessel during the time of the alleged incident and he was not sure of his current visa status.
He also told the court that the accused had difficulties in understanding English.
State lawyer Eoghan Samisoni told the court that prosecution would be calling 10 witnesses during the trial.
He anticipated the trial to last for two weeks.
He said the State would have the disclosures translated in mandarin.
The court was also told there was a possibility for the accused giving evidence during the trial.
Mr Wang was further remanded.
The matter has been adjourned to December 13 to fix a trial date.
