Chinese ambassador’s message for Chinese New Year
16 February, 2018, 12:00 am
This year, Chinese New Year falls on February 16th. According to the Chinese zodiac, 2018 is the year of the Dog. The Chinese regard it as an auspicious animal.
Dog is man’s good friend who can understand the human’s spirit and obeys its master.
Perhaps we should all learn from the dog, because we are supposed to be loyal to our country and the people.
China has entered a new era. Last year, the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China was convened in Beijing. It is a historic event both for China and the world. China drew up a blueprint for future development.
By 2020, China endeavors to build a moderately prosperous society in all respects.
By 2035, China will basically build into a modernized country. By 2049, China will fully achieve modernisation.
This is part of the Chinese dream. China’s development will create opportunities for the world.
We are willing to connect Chinese dreams with the dreams of other countries. In foreign affairs, China desires to work together with the world to build a new form of international relations and build a community with shared future for mankind.
I am confident that 2018 will witness new look and new contributions by China.
Thanks to the guidance of our two leaders — President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Bainimarama, China and Fiji are enjoying an excellent relationship in all respects, including parliament-to-parliament interaction, police to police cooperation, and etc.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the government of Fiji for successfully chairing the COP23 in Bonn last year, and launching the Fiji’s 5 and 20-year National Development Plan (NDP). Fiji’s role in addressing climate change and achieving sustainable development is well-noted.
China is a genuine and close friend of Fiji. We will surely be an important development partner for Fiji in the next 20 years by connecting the Belt and Road Initiative with the NDP of Fiji. Happy Chinese New Year!
