MINISTER for Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete today received USD$17,000 (FJD$36,000) worth of medical equipment from the Chinese government and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Dr Waqainabete said the equipment would assist the ministry in the fight against non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

The equipment includes blood pressure monitors and stethoscopes, weigh scales and blood glucose monitors.

“It will enable early detection and management of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, chronic respiratory diseases and cancer to prevent life-threatening complications like heart attacks, stroke, kidney failure, amputations and blindness,” Dr Waqainabete said.
