Children have been running away from home after receiving certain forms of discipline, says Empower Pacific chief executive officer Patrick Morgam.

Mr Morgam said Empower Pacific’s 24/7 helpline had received calls where concerned parents wanted their children’s rights, safety and holistic wellbeing addressed because of issues such as drug abuse and running away from home after being disciplined in a certain way.

“When these parents call, they are immediately referred to a counsellor who addresses their issues.”

He said parents would also be provided with awareness on positive parenting and coping mechanisms during the COVID-19 pandemic.

All callers, he said, had been helped one way or another.

Mr Morgam said Empower Pacific aimed to provide clients with holistic services where caring for the whole person was important and that involved the physical, mental, spiritual and social needs of individuals.

“It is the understanding that all these aspects affect our overall wellbeing, and being unwell in one aspect affects us in others.”
