Children get to play different instruments

GLOBESHAKERS Project is in Fiji hosting musical workshops for children and displayed a musical animation at the Fiji Museum yesterday.

Alliance Française organised the workshops for the group and director Thomas Feldstein said their main aim was to teach children about the different instruments they used.

“The group is here to introduce different types of music to the students and some of the instruments they use are very unusual for the kids because they haven’t used them; so the kids will have the opportunity to play these instruments and hear the different sounds it can produce,” Mr Feldstein said.

The 11-member brass brand is from Châtenay-Malabry on the campus of Centrale Paris in France and has toured the globe conducting similar workshops for children.

Mr Feldstein said they had been in Fiji since last month and had conducted workshops at Suva Primary School and has hosted performances for the University of the South Pacific and Kids First Fiji.

“The group has been here since mid-March and they are leaving at the end of April and have conducted workshops for Suva Primary School throughout last week,” he said.

They have done performances in USP and Kids First childcare. They will be performing in Suva Grammar School next week so we try to make the kids here benefit from this brass band presence.”
