Turaga na Tui Wailevu of Nawaisomo Village in Naitasiri Ratu Waisea Drakusiwale says water, electricity and a health centre are three outstanding issues he wants addressed when a government is formed after the 2022 General Election.

Even though the FijiFirst government brought about major developments in the village, he said there were still some major issues that needed to be addressed.

“Right now, the three major issues we have are electricity, water and a health centre in the village,” Ratu Waisea said.

“We hope the political party that will win the general election will help us in these three major areas when they form government.”

He said it would take more than an hour for villagers to travel to a health centre in Nakorosule or Vunidawa Hospital to access health services.

“It is really hard to take sick patients from the village to Nakorosule or Vunidawa Hospital, it’s quite far and we have to pay bus fares too.

“We want a health centre constructed in our village to make things easier for villagers.”

Villagers of Nakorosule, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said some pregnant women had to travel right to Suva to give birth at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital.

They said the same problem was also faced by villagers of Nakida, Dreketi and Nawairuarua.

They said before, when the road had not been constructed, some pregnant women would give birth on bamboo rafts or punts while transporting them down the Waicakena River.
