THE Vunivalu of Serua, Ratu Peni Mataitini Latianara, has expressed his disappointment over fishing of marine resources from protected areas at Serua Island.
Ratu Peni highlighted this during the Serua Provincial Council meeting in Navua last Friday.
The Serua Island waters have been declared a marine protected area since 2005.
Ratu Peni said the area was protected to conserve the marine resources for the island’s future generation.
He asked if the Fisheries Ministry could declare the island a marine protected area so people who were found stealing could be prosecuted.
