A former High Court judge appeared in the High Court of Fiji yesterday to move his grandson’s petition to be admitted to the Bar of the High Court of Fiji.

In a special court sitting, Isikeli Mataitoga, who also served as Solicitor-General from 1993 to 1997, appeared before Chief Justice Kamal Kumar to move David Mataitoga’s petition for admission.

It was a proud moment for the former judge.

He said his grandson had already been admitted to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Queensland, Australia, where he lived and worked.

The CJ said it was a very honourable thing to move a family member’s petition. Also admitted in the same sitting was assistant director of Public Prosecutions Dr Andrew Jack, whose petition was moved by lawyer Laurel Vaurasi.

Dr Andrew served 14 years in the Legal Section of the New Zealand Police and has been with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions since May 2018.

The CJ congratulated the two gentlemen and urged them to work with integrity.
