Fijian Economy Minister and Attorney-General (AG) Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum should stop blaming others for the failures of his own Government, says Fiji Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry.

He said this in response to comments made by Mr Sayed-Khaiyum last week that some Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded roads developed potholes within three months because “ADB told us to give it to the cheapest company”.

“The Asian Development Bank, or any other international financial institution for that matter, would not be expected to act in a manner detrimental to the interests of its member states,” Mr Chaudhry said.

“There are provisions in loan agreements to protect the borrower against construction defects and these can be invoked should the need arise.

“Mr Sayed-Khaiyum should know that many of the roads being complained about were funded and constructed by agencies other than the ADB.”

He said it was time the A-G learned to accept responsibility for the lapses of his Government.

* Questions sent to the ADB on September 1, September 2 and September 6 remain unanswered. || FLP || Response to AG’s ADB comments
