Hundreds of people rushed to the Suva-Nausori containment borders in Sawani and Nakasi yesterday to exchange goods for farm produce and vegetables.

Vehicles added to the chaos and noise as people tried to make contact with family members on the other side of checkpoints.

The cross-border exchanges were closely monitored by authorities and police ensured COVID-safe protocols were followed, but in many instances social distancing was difficult to monitor because of the size of the crowds.

Hundreds of people also queued up at supermarkets in the Central Division to do last-minute shopping.

The Suva and Nausori areas went into a curfew at 11pm yesterday to 4am next Wednesday.
