New executives are expected to join and enhance Tailevu Rugby Union this year. Union secretary Josefa Turaganivalu revealed this after the TRU meeting on Saturday in Nausori.

“We expect to have a new committee this season,” Turaganivalu said. He said TRU would be having its annual general meeting on February 20 to finalise its 2021 season and elect some new office bearers.

“This year majority of us officials have completed our three-year tenure in the management, so during our meeting on Saturday we have received nominees for the positions that will be vacated.

“We will have a new president, two vice-presidents, one secretary and its assistant, one treasurer and its assistant and we will have a seven-member committee, one member from the referees association and one member from the ex-players association.

“When we have the full committee members then they will decide if we need a new team management. “It is up to them on what they will decide.

For the time being, the team is doing its off-season training under the watchful eye of Ratu Manu Veikoso and Samisoni Baikeitoga.

“The players have been working on their strength and conditioning programs and they have set their focus on the task on hand.

“We have 26 affiliated clubs and we are expecting two clubs which are Waicoka and CMF.”

Turaganivalu said TRU had been working on getting its women’s team to play a weekly competition before the Fiji Rugby Union-sanctioned Skipper Cup tournament began.
