Tournament official Timoci Gaunavinaka said Sam Super Pool looked strong in their respective games.
“They won their first two games 2-1 and 3-0 and topped their pool — pool 2,” he said.
“They were the first team to qualify for the next stage of the competition and with the players they have, they look good to make it through to the final.
“If they played well and continue with their winning streak, they may even retain the title tomorrow (today).”
Last year’s finalist, Quick Cash Silver and Quick Cash Gold also had a winning start to the tournament and was favourites to top their pool.
They have the services of Viliame Umu, Ken Lord, Francis Ram, Esala Talebula, Joseph Lawrence and Ajay Singh Junior.
Ratnam Investments is another team that might play in the quarter-finals today.
“Today (yesterday) was just the pool games and we stopped the tournament for a while during lunch for all to have lunch together and do some fundraising since this is a charity tournament.”
Organised by Southern Division Billiards and Snooker Association (SDBSA), the tournament intends to raise funds to be donated to the Senior Citizen’s Home in Samabula.
Other items donated in kind would be given to the Salvation Army for distribution.
