THE pride of two nations will be at stake when Tongan Sitaleki Maka takes on local champion Junior Farzan Ali in the main bout of the Toe 2 Toe Boxing Promotions program in Nadi this evening.
Maka who is unbeaten in eight bouts tipped the scales 2.4 kilograms heavier than Junior Farzan known as “The Razor” for the 10 x 3 lightweight contest.
The 30-year-old who resides in New Zealand weighed 65.2kg while Junior Farzan weighed 62.8kg.
Both boxers agreed to fight at their respective weights.
Junior Farzan goes into the bout with a wealth of experience having 36 bouts under his belt.
The 36-year-old said he would not underestimate his opponent.
Junior Farzan said he would be fighting not only for himself but for the whole nation.
“I have prepared well for this fight,” he said.
“I have had good support from my sponsors and family. Maka is a good fighter and I will not underestimate him.
“I urge the fans to turn up in numbers.”
Junior Farzan has 28 wins out which 19 have come via knockouts. Despite having a knockout percentage of 53, Junior Farzan has opted not make any early predictions.
“My opponent is undefeated so I will not take things easily,” he said.
“I have trained hard and will be fighting for my country. I have worked a lot on my fitness.
“I will not give any predictions but will do my best. I have seen my opponent and will now work on a game plan and do my talking in the ring.”
A fit looking Maka said he would be out to maintain his unbeaten record. Maka, who turned professional in 2013, classed Junior Farzan as an experienced fighter.
“I have won all my eight fights and look forward to claiming another win,” he said.
“My opponent has the experience so in the ring you have to be smarter than him. I will just go out there and box and enjoy myself. Anything can happen in a fight.
“There are many Tongans here and hopefully they will be at the program to support me.”
The program starts at 5.30pm at Prince Charles Park.
