Champ ready for RKS Eels in schools final

LELEAN Memorial School Bulldogs will leave no stone unturned in its quest to defend the Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League under-19 final against Ratu Kadavulevu School Eels this afternoon.

Although the Davuilevu brigade will miss the services of their key players, but head coach Vili Gucake is confident of his team’s chances. He said the team also lacked quality time to fully prepare for the final because of the adverse weather, but he had faith in his players.

“This will be a huge task for the team being the defending champion,” said Gucake.

“Some of the key players are still stranded in the West, some in Rewa after being hit by the recent floods.

“The wet weather also forced us to train for only two days.

“We don’t want to use this as an excuse and we will give our very best to defend the title.

“Challenging is tough compared to defending and we need to be on the top of our game.”

Gucake said RKS would be out in full force to win, but he had a few tricks under his sleeves to counter the opposition.

“We will select from the available players in the training squad and we have been focusing more on the basics. The boys are mentally and spiritually prepared for the game and they are also aware of what to expect from RKS.

“RKS will come out strong and we respect them.”

Lelean will be represented in all the finals with their under-15 side to face Nasinu Panthers and the U17 to battle against Marist Storms. The finals will be held at the ANZ Stadium, 8.30am.
