THE Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry has sent its best wishes to Fijians across the country celebrating Diwali.
NCCI president Dr Ram Raju said it was a special occasion and held distinctive significance at a time when the country was also celebrating the arrival of the last girmitiya ship to Fiji on November 11, 1916.
“Diwali, the festival of lights and happiness is now well entrenched in our multicultural, multireligious and multiracial society that everyone celebrates with grandeur and excitement,” he said.
“As the biggest Indian festival lights homes, firecrackers, sharing of sweets and other delicacies, we should not forget the neighbours who are not so fortunate.
“It’s time to share, care, love and embrace one another in warmth and kindness.”
He also called on businesses to spread the spirit of Diwali by giving generously to help others.
“Members of the business community have always responded kindly and generously in times of disasters and I would like to request all of them again to assist the needy and brighten up their lives.”
