A ceremony to commemorate fallen officers of the Fiji Police Force was conducted today at the Fiji Police Special Response Unit in Nasinu.

The Fiji Police Force recorded 20 deaths this year.

In his official remarks during the ceremony, Speaker of Parliament Ratu Epeli Nailatikau said the Fiji Police Force Remembrance Day should not be just about the fallen officers but it should also be a time to reflect on some of the challenges facing the Force.

He said non-communicable diseases (NCDs) was a worrying trend in the Force.

“Police Remembrance Day – like every remembrance day – is a time for reflection and appreciation of the sacrifices of those who have been called to eternal rest,” Ratu Epeli said.

“But it is also a time to ensure that those who continue to serve our communities are given our full support.”

During the ceremony, the families and friends of fallen officers laid wreaths on the memorial stones to remember their loved ones.
