Update: 3:23PM VANI Catanasiga has been appointed the new executive director of the Fiji Council of Social Services Executive Committee (FCOSS).
A statement issued today by FCOSS confirmed this saying Ms Catanasiga, who replaces Neil Maharaj, is the first woman to hold the position of executive director of the organisation.
Her appointment comes weeks after a new executive committee was elected at the FCOSS annual general meeting in Suva last month.
The new executive committee members are Sitiveni Kunaika as President, Cema Bolabola, Pastor Anare Lovobalabu and Nancy Tikoisuva-Loaloa as Co-Vice Presidents and Surjeet Ram as Treasurer.
Other members include Prabha Nair, Asela Naisara, Sereana Rakalo, Julekha Mustapha, Naomi Kelea and Rita Narayan.
In the statement, FCOSS said it was proud of all that Mr Maharaj had achieved when he served FCOSS for 10 years, five of those years as the executive director.
Ms Catanasiga who joins FCOSS from the Pacific Islands Association of NGOs (PIANGO) will continue to work closely with the executive committee over the next few months to ensure the concerns of civil society organisations, community-based organisations and communities are heard and acted upon at various policy levels.
She has also served in the Pacific Centre for Peace building, Dialogue Fiji and worked as a journalist at the Fiji Times prior to her time at the Government’s Ministry of Youth and Sports.
