LAWYERS of the now-suspended National Federation Party started court proceedings on Monday against the Registrar of Political Parties, Mohammed Saneem, over his decision to suspend it.
Mr Saneem suspended the party for failing to have its books audited by an accountant certified by the Fiji Institute of Accountants.
Munro Leys partner Richard Naidu said the proceedings were lodged in the High Court on Monday and he was awaiting the release of the papers so they could be served on the Supervisor of Elections.
“The papers had not been released by the Court as of Wednesday afternoon. We will only know a hearing date when the papers are released,” Mr Naidu said.
Mr Saneem suspended the NFP for 30 days on February 1, 2016.
He said the NFP contravened the Political Parties Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures Decree 2013. The NFP has disputed the claim.
