A Nadi canefarmer asked Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama to look into the deduction of 67 cents from growers’ accounts which was made this year.

Kamlesh Kumar raised the issue during a talanoa session at the Tokatoka Sautorotoro Trust (TST) farm in Nadi last week on Wednesday.

“The way it has been deducted, the cane price would not make the $85 per tonne as promised,” he said.

In response, Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) chief executive officer Graham Clark said Mr Kumar was most probably referring to the previous cane payment.

He said the payment was made in terms of the Master Award.

“The payments were fully audited by the Sugar Industry Tribunal and the deductions were made in the correct manner,” said Mr Clark.

He said FSC was processing the final cane payment for 2019, which would be fully audited and assessed in terms of the Master Awards.
