A man died on Wednesday evening after he was crushed by a cane truck on a farm in Nanuku, Rakiraki.

Satya Nand, 67, was part of a mechanical harvester cane cutting crew.

His wife, Sunila Devi, was devastated, saying she was expecting him to return home.

“I told him in the morning not to go and he insisted he will go and come back,” she said.

“He said when he will come back home, he would cut the grass.

“All our children are out of the district. I am alone now.”

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the incident.

She said a 52-year-old cane lorry driver was being questioned.
